And do not waste time.
Tonight, I found myself remembering a quote I—nearly 10 years ago—taped on the front of my sketchbook. It was the only thing there, because it conveyed a sense of desperation that made it seem like it was the only thing that mattered:
“After Michelangelo died, someone found in his studio a piece of paper on which he had written a note to his apprentice, in the handwriting of his old age: ‘Draw, Antonio, draw, Antonio, draw and do not waste time.’”
I always imagine him scribbling it. Almost like they were his last words, in his dying breaths. Like, “If you need know anything, PLEASE, know this…”
Art for survival. Art because you absolutely must. Art…because there is no time to waste.
